CAD Technician - Substation Projects\n\nOur client is looking to hire a CAD Technician to support the delivery of substation and utility infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong AutoCAD background who is looking to develop further within a growing engineering environment, particularly within the power and energy sector.\n\nThe role will involve producing high-quality civil and structural drawings for substation projects, working closely with engineers and multidisciplinary teams to support design development from concept through to construction.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nProduce accurate civil and structural CAD drawings for substation and utility infrastructure projects\nPrepare and update: \nGeneral arrangement drawings\nFoundation and footing details\nSteelwork and gantry layouts\nTrenches, ducting, and drainage drawings\nSite layouts and grading plans\nSupport the production and maintenance of drawing registers and document\ncontrol processes\nAssist with design modifications and revisions following engineer and client\nfeedback\nWork closely with civil, structural, and electrical engineering teams throughout\nproject delivery\nSupport the transition and development of projects into Revit and 3D modelling\nenvironments\nInterpret engineering sketches, technical specifications, and survey information\nto produce detailed drawings\nEnsure all work is completed in line with industry and client drafting standards\nOpportunity to attend site visits and provide project support where requiredExperience\n\n2-7 years' experience within CAD drafting/design, ideally within civil or structural\nEngineering\nPrevious experience working on: \nSubstation projects\nTransmission & distribution projects\nUtility or infrastructure projects would be highly advantageous\nExperience working in multidisciplinary engineering environments preferredTechnical Skills\n\nStrong proficiency in AutoCAD (essential)\nExperience with Revit, MicroStation, or other 3D/CAD modelling software advantageous\nGood understanding of civil and structural drafting standards and detailing practices\nKnowledge of:\nConcrete detailing\nSteel structure detailing\nFoundations, pedestals, trenches, and structural layouts\nFamiliarity with substation layouts and industry standards such as IEC, IEEE, and utility specifications\nAbility to manage drawing revisions and maintain accurate documentation\nComfortable interpreting engineering mark-ups and design changes \n\nPersonal Attributes\n\nStrong attention to detail and accuracy\nGood communication and collaboration skills\nTeam-oriented approach with willingness to support wider project teams\nProactive attitude and willingness to develop technically within the power sector \n\nLocation & Working Pattern\n\nLeeds city centre office - typically 2-3 days per week\nAdditional project exposure in the North East (Boldon area)\nFlexible approach to occasional site visits if desiredersg are an equal opportunities employer; we are committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all job applicants.
