Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Estimator/Senior Estimator role based in East Kilbride. You will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for construction, refurbishment, fit-out, and small works projects across public and private sectors. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing drawings and specifications, conducting take-offs, sourcing and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations, and building comprehensive cost models. The role will collaborate closely with project managers, commercial teams, and directors to assess project risks, optimize value engineering options, and support bid strategy. The Senior Estimator will also contribute to post-tender negotiations, assist with budgeting and cost planning, and maintain accurate estimating records and benchmarking data.
Key aspects of the role include:
- Reporting directly to the Estimating Manager and Pre-Construction Director.
- Working closely with the Operations and Commercial Teams to ensure the commercial viability of contracts.
- Taking an active role in akp Supply Chain cultivation with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Ensuring tenders are submitted on time.
- Studying the commercial and technical requirements of a bid making due allowance for and manage those requirements that may place the company at risk or provide commercial opportunities.
- Carrying out site visits to prospective and current sites to assess work methods and possible challenges or opportunities.
- Maintaining a working knowledge of subcontractors and ensure that estimates are based upon approved and competent suppliers.
- Acting as the customer contact during the bid process, updating the job file and responding to customer requests for information.

Qualifications
- Strong estimating experience within construction, refurbishment, and fit-out environments, ideally with a principal contractor.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Experience using estimating software and MS Excel for take-offs, cost build-ups, and reporting.
- Degree, Diploma or equivalent experience in Construction Management or related field of study.
- Experience estimating projects.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
- You will have excellent communication and collaboration skills with an ability to inspire confidence and trust among customers and stakeholders.
- You are proactive, organised and thrive when working as part of a small team to deliver multiple project deadlines.
- Understanding of refurbishment, fit out, manufactured joinery and construction methods and related product knowledge would be a strong advantage.
- Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to build credibility across the organisation and with our customers.
- Solid understanding of building methods, materials, subcontractor trades, and current market rates.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tenders, work to deadlines, and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Confident communicator, able to collaborate with internal teams and build effective relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners.
- Previous experience in public and private sector tendering frameworks is advantageous.
- Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Commitment to health and safety, quality, and continuous improvement in estimating practices.
